A melee hit can be spectacular and still feel weightless. The player needs to read intent before contact, understand the result at contact and have a fair chance to act during recovery.

Three moments

The useful animation question is not “does this swing look cool?” It is whether the wind-up communicates threat, the contact communicates consequence and the recovery communicates the next decision.

That structure helps combat design, animation and camera work agree on the same player-facing beat.

AI-assisted iteration

Agents are useful for turning notes into test cases, naming state transitions and finding duplicate timing constants. They are not a substitute for playing the encounter at speed and asking whether the result feels fair.
